about this project:
Popular Cult is our self-financed (no-budget) documentary looking into
the experiences and insights of those who love, collect and create pop
music, icons and art. People may argue over the validity of pop culture
as a 'true art form', some dismiss it as a disposable medium, while
others embrace it dearly.
Is Pop Culture important?
We feel it is. It's where we find our villans,
heros, crushes, and inspiration. Popular culture provides us with common
grounds to communicate our personal beliefs and ideals.
You may love it or hate it, relish in it, avoid it at all cost, or just
stare vacantly into it - pop culture is a mirror of our lives, and an
artifact of our society for the future. Youth culture finds it's fashion,
morality, and desires from these mediums.
The topic being far too vast to cover in a single film, so we have narrowed
our focused on the people who have been important to us, and who share
the passion of the divine absurdity of it all, and most importantly,
those and proved to us that WE CAN INFLUENCE IT – even if it's at a grass roots level, it makes an impact ... or at least allow us a confectionary escape.
